ManageMinds is pleased to announce another addition to our range of 1-2-1 therapy programmes: The Control Anger Programme.

Learn about what's involved, why it's important to treat anger issues and how this service can help you feel more in control of your emotions.

What is the Control Anger Programme?

While anger is an emotion that everyone experiences, for some people, it can get out of control. When anger becomes your brain’s go-to way of dealing with tricky situations, it can impact your relationships, your job and your personal well being.

How do you know if your anger is a problem?

If you find that you get angry occasionally, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you have an anger problem. After all, it’s a natural human emotion and certain situations will inevitably make us feel angry. However, if you notice any of these 3 features in your anger, it’s time to seek help:

  • You get angry frequently
  • Your anger is very intense
  • You express your anger in unhealthy ways (for example by becoming violent or abusive)

You can find more warning signs in our article Anger: When Does It Become a Problem?

The Control Anger Programme is a 6-week therapy experience that will help you to explore what’s causing your anger and give you the tools to manage your emotions, reduce stress levels and improve your mindset.

Who is the programme for?

This programme is designed for people who feel that their anger is having a negative impact on their life. It is particularly useful if you can no longer control the level of your anger or how it is expressed.

Talking to a professional therapist and tackling issues using effective problem-solving skills can vastly improve the way you feel.

There is no need to obtain some kind of formal diagnosis to take this programme—it is available to everyone.

Learn your anger score

Not sure whether your anger is a problem, or curious to know how severe your anger levels would be considered to be? We have a quick questionnaire, based on NHS-approved assessments, that can provide you with your very own anger score.

Why does anger need to be managed?

Anger is an emotion that, if allowed to get out of control, can be harmful to yourself and those around you. It can be very destructive and prevents you from processing emotions and experiences that need to be addressed.

Experiencing frequent bouts of anger also puts a lot of stress on the body and is not a healthy mindset to live with. Furthermore, it can lead to behaviours that make us feel further negative emotions, like shame, guilt and sadness.

Don’t let anger take over your personality and ruin the life you’ve built for yourself. Seeking treatment can help you improve everything from your personal mood to your relationships with others.

Frequently asked questions

Do I get to choose the therapist that leads the programme?

If you have a particular therapist in mind, you can mention this when you book your programme. However, while we strive to cater to clients’ needs in terms of preferences like gender, it’s not always possible for us to guarantee a specific therapist, as their schedules are often busy.

How will the sessions be scheduled?

All ManageMinds services are designed to fit around your schedule. When you book your programme, you can let us know your availability and we will match this with the availability of a suitable therapist. We recommend a schedule of 1 session per week for our programmes.

How quickly can I complete the programme?

This is a comprehensive programme that includes a lot of information and resources. To get the most out of it, we recommend that you do not complete more than one session a week. However, if you are eager to schedule sessions more frequently than this, you can discuss it with your therapist.

Do I need to bring anything with me to the sessions?

Before the programme begins you will receive a welcome pack that includes everything you need to know to prepare. It’s a good idea to establish a private room or space where you can do the therapy component of your programme. You will need a laptop (or similar device) with Zoom installed to complete the sessions.

We also suggest having a pen, notepad, tissues and soft drink on hand.

What if I need more than 6 sessions?

We believe that the programme of 6 sessions provides enough time and information for you to make significant improvements to your mental health. The programmes are also designed to equip you with coping techniques and self care plans that you can use well beyond your final session.

If, upon completing the programme, you feel that you would benefit from more time with a therapist, our team will be happy to arrange further sessions for you.

Is the programme guaranteed to cure my anger issues?

The programme includes regular assessments of your mental wellbeing and progress with the worksheets, to ensure that measurable improvement is being achieved.

However, while therapy is one of the most powerful tools we have to improve mental health, anger issues should not be viewed as something that can be “cured”. Medical professionals do not use this kind of language in this context, and you should be wary of any service that guarantees to “cure” a mental health issue.

Learning how to build resilience, use problem-solving solutions and master coping mechanisms is a very effective way to manage anger. That is what this programme provides you with, and the results can be life-changing.
